Closed and open situation refers to the predictable or unpredictabel nature of the outcome. These terms are mostly used in skill classification. Closed practices are used when the outcome is predictable, eg. rebound followed by outlet pass. Open practices have an unpredictable outcome, eg. decision making of a guard in a 5v5 fast break. Guard will have several options depending on the defence.
