PE Units

COURSE STRUCTURE


This course consists of three units as follows:

  • Performance                                                            Int 2/Higher      80 hours

     
  • Exercise and Fitness                                                 Int  2              40 hours

     
  • Community Sports Leader Award (level 2)                                      40 hours


SUMMARY

The Performance unit will allow those students who have a strong interest in
sporting performance to further develop their skills in a variety of sports. On
completion of the unit the performer should be able to demonstrate
performance in contexts which challenge the individual. Internal assessment
will determine level of pass in each activity.

The Exercise and Fitness Intermediate 2 Units - aim to prepare individuals
for safe participation in a range of training activities. These units will provide
students with an opportunity to gain relevant knowledge of how to construct
personal fitness sessions and pupils will undertake a fitness programme to
develop their own specific fitness levels.


The Community Sports Leader Award (level 2) is governed by Sport Leader UK.
It consists of seven units of work covering topics such as communicating with
others, organisation of activity sessions, and development of leadership skills. Candidates will also gain a First Aid certificate which is funded by Coaching Highland.
As a recognised qualification, the award can be a stepping-stone to
employment, further education or training. Candidates who complete the
award go on to support their local community by assisting in after hours
schools clubs, or in local youth clubs or sports centres. If pupils wish to
register with Sport Leader UK. The cost for a Log Book is £ 15. The
enrolment fee will be non-refundable and will be required to be paid at start of
course. A school based certificate will be available to pupils who complete
this part of course but who do not wish to obtain the nationally recognised
qualifications.

 

RECOMMENDED ENTRY

While entry is at the discretion of the centre, candidates would normally be
expected to have attained one of the following or equivalent:

  • Standard Grade Physical Education at General Level
  • Intermediate 1 Physical Education


As a major part of this course pupils should demonstrate a positive attitude in
all elements. They will also be expected to show a good work ethic by being
self- motivated and prepared to work as part of a team
